Parking in Ballard

Ballard is a neighborhood of Seattle, Washington with a strong Scandinavian heritage. The Nordic Heritage Museum is located in Ballard, and the area celebrates numerous Scandinavian holidays including Syttendi Mai (Constitution Day). In the 19th century, the area drew thousands of fishermen with its plentiful salmon populations. When a water shortage threatened the Ballard population in 1905, the town was annexed by Seattle.

In recent years, Ballard has experienced a housing boom. What was once a seafaring community has become a more traditional, urban area with high rises and increased commercialization. Parking in Ballard is going to become increasingly difficult in the coming years. As of 2007, the neighborhood had begun work on twenty major residential and commercial real estate projects. The developments are part of a plan to reduce Seattle’s urban sprawl. Unfortunately for current residents, this means that parking in Ballard is going to become even more difficult than it already is.

If you’re heading into Ballard to take in some of the culture events, such as the Second Saturday Artwalk, or are heading to the Majestic Bay Theater to take in a movie, you’ll want to find parking in Ballard beforehand.
