West Seattle is truly an amazing area. You’ll find some of Seattle’s best beaches and impressive views of the Olympic Mountains. West Seattle is also home to Alki Point and Alki Beach. Because of this, parking in West Seattle can become difficult once tourism season or a sunny day comes along. Using Parking Spotter.com, you can find parking in West Seattle before you drive to Alki Point.
Alki Point is home to many amusements. After you’ve found parking in West Seattle, head over to the point to see the Alki Point lighthouse. The lighthouse is on the southern entrance of Elliott Bay, a 37 foot structure containing an oil-vapor lamp. The lighthouse is complemented by a fog signal and both are automated. Alki Beach features many restaurants and is a favorite destination for local youths. Joggers, rollerbladers, and bicyclists have also taken a liking to the beach because of its two and a half mile boardwalk. Unfortunately, “the Coney Island of the West” – Luna Park – no longer sits on Alki Point. In 1913, the park was closed and visitors could no longer enjoy a ride on the Figure Eight Roller Coaster or enjoy The Original Human Ostrich. At very low tides, the pilings that once supported the pier upon which Luna Park sat can still be seen in Elliott Bay.
